Senior Cwm Taf Public Service Board Kirsty Smith is carrying out a scoping exercise into mental health provision across Cwm Taf Morgannwg (Merthyr, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Bridgend areas) on behalf of the Public Services Boards and the Regional Partnership Board.

Kirsty says: “As we approach a year since restrictions were first put in place, it’s been interesting to see how communities have coped and managed over the period and it would be really great to speak with and find out about what you’re hearing, seeing and experiencing.”

Through conversations, Kirsty is hoping to find out about:

  • the current situation (what’s out there, what’s commissioned, who’s in a position to help or struggling with capacity, how are people accessing support – or not – and funding sources);
  • likely changes in the immediate future (changes to distance learning / capacity / increase in support as we approach the anniversary of covid deaths, funding, those not known to services);
  • existing longer-term support, challenges and concerns;
  • the cliff edge, major issues to both ‘low lying’ mental health concerns and those at the more acute end of the spectrum;
  • how are services that aren’t badged as mental health support seeing and dealing with concerns over mental health; and
  • anything else that may be relevant.

Kirsty adds: “I’d be really keen to speak with you – nothing formal but an open conversation or chat. This can be phone, Teams or Zoom and on a one-to-one basis or perhaps with a group if that’s something you’d be interested in. If you’d prefer to email me your thoughts, then that would be great too! Please let me know if you’d like me to set something up to speak with you – return email or my phone number is below.”
