New smoke-free laws in Wales

From 1 March 2021, these locations across Wales have become smoke-free:

  • hospital grounds;
  • all school grounds;
  • children’s playgrounds;
  • outdoor areas of childminding settings;
  • outdoor areas at children’s day care settings.

Smoking in a smoke-free space could result in a £100 fine. You can read more here.

The restriction intend to:

  • denormalise smoking;
  • reduce the risk of young people starting smoking;
  • reduce exposure to harmful second-hand smoke;
  • For free NHS support to quit smoking contact.
