Online Racism and Social Media: Impact, effects and solutions

EYST Wales online racism forum
Wednesday 17 March 2021 from 4.30 – 6pm with Ashton Hewitt
Featuring Welsh rugby player Ashton Hewitt and Cardiff University Hate Lab director Matthew Williams.

In recent years, and especially since lockdown began, there has been a rise in online racist abuse and harassment. This has left a significant negative impact on those affected, especially those who are most vulnerable (e.g. young people).

Many of these abusers use anonymous social media accounts which makes it difficult to find them and press charges. Many well-known individuals in Wales have been subject to such online racial abuse, including rugby player Ashton Hewitt.

EYST Wales is holding an online forum get the community’s views on this issue and gather some potential solutions that will be fed back to the Welsh Government. They will also have some practical tips about how to protect yourself online.

Join Eyst in hearing their experiences and have a chance to ask them how they used their platforms to raise awareness of racial abuse.

To join use the following link here  and for more information please contact Amr Alwishah, Youth Rights and Participation Officer by emailing: amr@eyst.org.uk
