Volunteering Wales facts

  • 30% of people in Wales volunteered between April 2022 and March 2023, an increase from 26% in 2019–2020.
  • In 2023, Volunteering Matters reported that 321 volunteers in Wales supported 2,119 people through various projects.
  • A survey by the British Heart Foundation found that 48% of Welsh respondents believe volunteering could enhance their mental health.
  • Post-pandemic, there has been a notable increase in Gen Z volunteers, with over half of new retail volunteers at the British Heart Foundation being from this generation.
