Nomination information, rules and purpose of awards

Every year thousands of individuals and groups volunteer across Bridgend County Borough giving their time, energy, skills and commitment to help others in their community.

Bridgend Unsung Heroes’ Awards 2026 are designed to thank, recognise and honour volunteers and organisations that have made a significant contribution to our community.

This is the ninth year that we have run the awards and we would like to encourage people to nominate individuals and/or groups who they believe have made a significant contribution to the community.

The process of nominating is quick and simple, and all nominees will receive a formal certificate.

The awards categories are:

Nomination procedure

• Individuals cannot be nominated by themselves, a partner, family member or any employee of BAVO. The nominator should have known the nominee for a minimum of six months;
• Nominees must have volunteered in Bridgend County Borough within the last 12 months;
• The Volunteer of the Year under 25 category is for those aged under 25 on
  31 December 2026;
• Organisations must be based or working within Bridgend County Borough;
• Paid workers are not eligible for the awards.

Rules for all categories:

Personal details provided on all nomination forms may be passed on to partner organisations and to the media for publicity purposes. If you are not willing for any information to be shared in this way please let us know as soon as possible.

1. Please note that whist all nominees will be recognised, only the highest scoring nominee will be selected for an award for each category.
2. Please ensure that the information provided is relevant and unique to the nominee. The information should not be replicated or duplicated for another nominee.
3. A selection panel will select the award winners.
4. The panel’s decisions are final. The panel reserves the right not to make an award in any particular category if they feel that the nominations are not suitable. No feedback will be given on the panel’s decisions or discussions.

Closing date for nominations:

Completed nominations must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, 10^th March, using the official nomination form. Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.

Postal nominations must be marked ‘Private and confidential’ and should be returned to Sharon Headon, BAVO – 112/113 Commercial Street, Maesteg, Bridgend, CF34 9DL.
