New lock down grants available to charities

FIRST COME FIRST SERVED: Discretionary Lock down grants are still available to charities and and community groups that meet the criteria (not just ‘businesses’).

A new £1,000 Welsh Government basic grant is available to eligible charities that operate premises within the hospitality, leisure or retail sectors that are facing operational and financial challenges caused by the lockdown restrictions.

This includes community amateur sports clubs (CASCS), community centres (assembly and leisure venues) and charitable shops that have been affected by the lockdown/firebreak.

A further discretionary grant of an additional £1,500 or £2,000 may be available to charities and CASCS whose income and activities are affected by an enforced closure due to firebreak regulations.

To be eligible, you must be operating from a property which has a rateable value. A rateable value is different to ‘paying rates’.  You do NOT have to pay rates to be eligible – most charities receive credit in the form of charitable rate relief and do not pay rates.

There is an online application form which asks you a number of questions, and it requires you to upload a bank statement too (as evidence the bank is in the name of an organisation, not an individual), so please have this to hand if you intend to apply.  You do not have to employ staff to be eligible and as above, you do not have to pay rates.

Find out further information and appy here.

When reading the guidance do not automatically think you are ineligible, contact BAVO by calling 01656 810400 or email: if you have any questions or are confused as to your eligibility.

Applications for the grants will close at 5pm on 20 November 2020 or when the fund is fully committed.
