Link Up Project

Link Up Project: Prosiect Lincio Lan
‘Strengthening 3rd sector skills’

Link Up partners

BAVO worked in partnership with Swansea CVS and Neath Port Talbot CVS to strengthen third sector governance and skills development, by helping trustees /board members/committee members to become more confident in their roles.

The project provided trustee workshops and informal opportunities to get together and share concerns and ideas, we recruited skilled mentors from public, private and independent sectors and match them with third sector organisations.

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, the project closed in October 2021, but we are always looking for new Trustees  to support local groups, if you are interested in volunteering please email sharonheadon@bavo.org.uk

What are the benefits of getting involved?

As a volunteer, you will:

  • build your CV;
  • gain experience for future jobs;
  • help your community become a better place to live;
  • develop or expand your business management skills;
    develop your strategic, operational and financial planning knowledge and expertise;
  • build your network;
  • make new friends;
  • receive training

As a VOLUNTEER TRUSTEE…
Trustees are sometimes known as Board members or Committee members.  Their role is to make sure  their voluntary organisation or community group has a clear strategy, and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. Being a trustee can be very rewarding.

As a trustee you have the chance to support and shape the work and strategic direction of an organisation and you can make a significant difference to a cause that matters to you. You are part of a team and will have the opportunity to apply your unique skills and experience while learning from others.

Working closely with a passionate team of people who have different perspectives is often one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role.

If you are a voluntary and community organisation in the area who would like some help from us…

We can :

  • help your existing management board  or committee to gain better understanding of their roles and responsibilities;
  • support you with the development and resources to help with induction of new board members and development of your board members more generally and help you to find new people to add extra skills and new perspectives to your board to make it stronger;
  • assist your board to plan for the future, to write the plans you need to move forward and support you to put them into practice;
  • put your organisation in touch with others in the area who are facing similar challenges so that you can help each other to work out solutions.

Please email bavo@bavo.org.uk to contact our Third sector relations team for support

Trustee Network…

Online Bridgend County Third Sector Trustee Network meeting for trustees and committee members via Zoom

BAVO hosts a regular network meeting for trustees to share effective practise and ideas with each other and to discuss possible ways of lobbying and influencing policy.

Trustees find the meetings to be really useful and supportive. Meetings are currently hosted using Zoom. It’s very simple to use; all you need to join in is a smartphone, tablet, laptop or pc with camera.

To find out more or if you would like to attend, contact Rhodri at BAVO by emailing: Rhodripowell@bavo.org.uk or call BAVO, T: 01656 810400.

One of the essential requirements for good governance in any organisation is for its trustee board or committee to have a good mixture of skills and experience across the team as a whole…

A good way of checking out what your Board or Committee currently has (and hasn’t /needs) is to undertake a skills audit.

Download our template here which you can adapt to suit your needs

And remember…if it will be helpful, a BAVO staff member can help your Board or Committee work through this exercise; simply contact our Relations Team to make arrangements by calling 01656 810400 or E: bavo@bavo.org.uk
