BAVO worked in partnership with Swansea CVS and Neath Port Talbot CVS to strengthen third sector governance and skills development, by helping trustees /board members/committee members to become more confident in their roles.
The project provided trustee workshops and informal opportunities to get together and share concerns and ideas, we recruited skilled mentors from public, private and independent sectors and match them with third sector organisations.
Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, the project closed in October 2021, but we are always looking for new Trustees to support local groups, if you are interested in volunteering please email sharonheadon@bavo.org.uk
What are the benefits of getting involved?
As a volunteer, you will:
As a VOLUNTEER TRUSTEE…
Trustees are sometimes known as Board members or Committee members. Their role is to make sure their voluntary organisation or community group has a clear strategy, and that its work and goals are in line with its vision. Being a trustee can be very rewarding.
As a trustee you have the chance to support and shape the work and strategic direction of an organisation and you can make a significant difference to a cause that matters to you. You are part of a team and will have the opportunity to apply your unique skills and experience while learning from others.
Working closely with a passionate team of people who have different perspectives is often one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role.
If you are a voluntary and community organisation in the area who would like some help from us…

Online Bridgend County Third Sector Trustee Network meeting for trustees and committee members via Zoom
BAVO hosts a regular network meeting for trustees to share effective practise and ideas with each other and to discuss possible ways of lobbying and influencing policy.
Trustees find the meetings to be really useful and supportive. Meetings are currently hosted using Zoom. It’s very simple to use; all you need to join in is a smartphone, tablet, laptop or pc with camera.
To find out more or if you would like to attend, contact Rhodri at BAVO by emailing: Rhodripowell@bavo.org.uk or call BAVO, T: 01656 810400.
A good way of checking out what your Board or Committee currently has (and hasn’t /needs) is to undertake a skills audit.
