The responsibility for providing healthcare services in the Bridgend County Borough area transferred from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board to Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board on 1 April 2019.

The change of responsibility follows a | public consultation | by Welsh Government.

On 1 April 2019 both Health Boards changed their names to reflect their new geographical boundaries:

  • Cwm Taf University Health Board will become Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol | Cwm Taf Morgannwg | University Health Board;
  • Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board will become Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Bae Abertawe / Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The purpose of the boundary change is to strengthen partnerships arrangements for Bridgend County Borough Council. The Regional Partnership Board arrangements will also change to bring together heath, social care, education and other services. A partnership work stream is working to manage the change including the transfer of third sector contracts and agreements.

There are three important things to emphasise:

  • No services are being reduced or lost;
  • How patients access or receive care will be the same after 1 April 2019;
  • Patients will continue to travel to the same place as they do now for care.

Patient care and safety will always be their top priority. So, the change of responsibility shouldn't impact on our patients in any way.
