The procedures will provide guidance to practitioners working in Wales to safeguard children and adults who are experiencing or are at risk of abuse, neglect or other kinds of harm.

The procedures were written following a thorough review of existing policies and procedures in place across Wales. Practitioners from all sectors were involved in drafting the procedures and best practice from not just Wales but from across the UK also informed their development.

The procedures will ensure consistent practice across Wales. For the first time, safeguarding procedures for adults and children will be in place throughout Wales, across all agencies and sectors.

They will help practitioners apply the principles of the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 and Welsh Government’s Handing Individual Cases guidance. As well as promoting good practice, the publication of the procedures will represent a significant step in improving how practitioners work together to protect adults and children at risk.

The procedures will provide guidance to anyone working in the statutory, third (voluntary) and private sectors and will apply to both practitioners and managers.
