Side By Side Cymru:

Merthyr and the Valleys Mind has set up a Peer Support Grant Scheme to support local community groups whose members support each others’ mental health and wellbeing.

Your group can apply for a grant of up to £250. This grant can be used to purchase equipment, resources or venue hire for your group.

You do not need to be a constituted group to apply. Any purchases or bookings will be made directly by Mind so you don’t need to be a constituted group or have a group bank account.

They are looking to fund groups that meet the following criteria:

  • New and existing community-based groups and organisations that meet on a regular basis in Merthyr, Rhondda Cynon Taff or Bridgend;
  • Members use their own experiences to help each other;
  • State how the grant will help the group to deliver or sustain their peer support.
  • Has attended a Peer Support networking or training event run by Merthyr and the Valleys Mind.

What is the Side By Side Cymru Project? Your local Mind will be:

  • Running training and networking events for people to learn, connect and share their experiences of peer support;
  • Providing one-to-one support and advice to people running peer support groups;
  • Administering a small in-kind grant scheme for peer support groups;
  • Promoting the value of peer support to local mental health commissioners.

The grant can be used for:

  • Arts and craft materials;
  • Venue hire for the group;
  • Guest speakers;
  • Training for the group;
  • IT equipment;
  • Refreshments;
  • Sports equipment;
  • Storage of equipment used by the group;
  • Marketing materials, e.g. posters and leaflets for the group.

If you would like to apply for a Peer Support Grant, at least one member of your group will first need to take part in a Peer Support training or networking event.

You can register your interest in becoming part of Merthyr and the Valleys  Mind’s Peer Hub Network by contacting Wendy Mackay, E: [email protected] or T: 07399347737.

They will then send you a grant application form and details of their next training and networking events.
