The Independent NHS 'Watchdog':

  • monitors Local NHS services;
  • engages the public and patients on service change;
  • listens to your views on the NHS;
  • meets with NHS managers and staff to make them aware of patient and public views;
  • provides an Independent Advocacy Service to assist patients and their representatives through the NHS complaints procedure.

By volunteering, they can help you build skills through:

  • engagement – talking to members of the public to gain their views on health services;
  • scrutiny – monitoring health services;
  • report writing – represent the CHC at meetings and report back to members
    Team working – all work undertaken by CHC members is done within a team.
