The role of the Chair will be to provide leadership and direction to the board of Trustees and to chair the Trustee meetings for Cancer Research Wales. The Chair’s aim is to enable the board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of Cancer Research Wales.

The Chair will ensure that Cancer Research Wales complies with its governing document and constitution, charity law and any other relevant legislation or regulations and to make sure that Cancer Research Wales pursues its objects as defined in its governing document and constitution.

The Chair's role is to work in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cancer Research Wales and to support the employees, enabling them to achieve the aims of the organisation; and to optimise the relationship between the board of Trustees and the staff.

The Board meets four times a year in Cardiff. It is important that the Chair is able to visit the charity office and be available to the Chief Executive Officer in person, by phone, text or email, on a regular basis. From time to time, the Chair should be available to attend and represent the charity at events and meetings during the day or at evening functions.

Please note: This position is not remunerated. However, reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred fulfilling the duties of the role are reimbursed in line with the expenses policy.
