St Johns Centre Minerva Street, Bridgend

Over recent years, Bridgend County Borough Council have had to make significant budgetary savings.  After almost 10 years of austerity and continuing reduced budgets they now find themselves forced to consider more proposals to make up the deficit for the future.  Despite having had to increase council tax, there is still a requirement to save millions despite having saved  £27million in last four years.  They have done this through streamlining senior management, relocating staff and closing some premises as well as developing more online services. They also remodeled two childrens homes, removed surplus properties and assets and re-organised back office functions.

Despite this, BCBC find themselves in the position of having to look at other proposals such as removing CCTV coverage, closing down household recycling centre, stopping pest control services, ceasing adult learning classes and more. This is because they still have to make £35m more savings by 2023.

As such, BAVO want to enable the third sector and local community to be part of this discussion so have arranged for officer leads and councillors to aid this discussion.
