Volunteering.
BAVO recently held its third volunteer information event to mark Volunteers Week.
Held annually during Volunteer week, this celebratory event gives individuals a chance to see what volunteering opportunities are available in Bridgend County Borough.
The Volunteer Managers Forum is very active in driving this event forward.

Volunteer Managers Forum
Bridgend County Borough Volunteer Managers Forum is for workers of voluntary groups and local agencies. The forum defines volunteer workers as those that support volunteers in their voluntary group or those that identify as providing information on volunteer opportunities within their group, on a paid or voluntary basis.
The Forum has Bridgend County Borough as its geographical boundary and derives its membership from both local voluntary organisations and regional or national voluntary organisations that are active, or intending to be active in the Bridgend County Borough area. The Forum invites key speakers to attend.
Aims of the Forum are:
- To promote awareness and understanding of volunteering related issues.
- To improve networking and co-operation between local voluntary organisations and agencies.
- To share good practise.
- To provide a county wide support network for volunteer workers.
During 2006 we invited key workers to provide information on the following; Welsh Assembly to give an overview of the Russell Commission, Job Centre Plus to discuss benefits and volunteering and South Wales Police to provide information on Data Protection.
The Volunteer Forum gives people working and developing a volunteer programme an opportunity to share ideas, network and provide mutual support. It is also seen as an opportunity for organisations to highlight any new or existing developments.
The forum meets quarterly, please contact Sharon on 01656 810400 for information on the date, time and venue for the next meeting.
