Training

BAVO provides informal and formal learning opportunities to enhance the skills, knowledge and confidence of volunteers and people involved with voluntary organisations and community groups within the Borough.

BAVO Training Programme Objectives

  • Identify and respond to the training and learning needs of voluntary organisations, community groups and volunteers
  • Encourage and promote good practice in volunteering through learning
  • Provide a programme of learning opportunities appropriate to the needs of groups and individuals in the voluntary sector
  • To promote good quality, affordable, accessible training and learning opportunities for all
  • To work in partnership with other sectors whilst maintaining our independence
  • Provide a range of non accredited sessions and accredited opportunities for those who wish to seek them

BAVO aims to offer the high quality training you want, where you want it, at a price you can afford.

We will support community and voluntary groups to build their strategies and systems, so that they can build their capacity to offer needs led training, learning opportunities and staff, volunteer and trustee development.

We offer an open programme of training covering key topics based on your feedback and current relevance to the voluntary and community sector.

We can also tailor training specifically to meet the specific needs of your organisations (large or small) so that you can benefit from the expertise and knowledge of our local and national trainers!

We can offer advice and facilitation services for your staff, volunteer and trustee away days planning meetings to help you make them more meaningful and productive. We can also offer informal learning through development support for new and small groups and for larger organisations facing change or challenge.

Training is delivered at convenient accessible venues across the County and our trainers are accredited trainers knowledgeable in their subject areas and have experience of working with the voluntary sector.

If you are interested in finding out more contact Deb Evans , Training and Development Officer.

We can also provide specifially tailored training courses for and on behalf of other sectors and agencies outside of the third sector. Whatever your needs, give Esther a ring first!

Free ASIST(Applied Suicide Intervention Skills) training courses

We will be running FREE ASIST training courses as part of the 'Siaradwn Ni/ Let's Talk' Project funded by the BIG Lottery. The free workshops in Bridgend County are open to Bridgend based beneficiaries only.

This course normally costs £180 per person, however we are trying to encourage as many people from the local community to take advantage of this two day practical workshop that looks at how to appropriately and confidently carry out suicide first aid through the ASIST intervention model.

These workshops have a limited number of places and require a two day commitment. Any non attendance without reasonable notice or reason may result in the full partcipant rate being charged. To book a place in 2012 you must complete a booking form and return it to BAVO.

Course Outline The emphasis of the ASIST workshop is on suicide first aid, on helping a person at risk stay safe and seek further help.

Learn how to:
·       Recognise invitations for help
·       Reach out and offer support
·       Review the risk of suicide
·       Apply a suicide intervention model
·       Link people with community resources

The workshop increases caregivers' knowledge and confidence to respond to a person at risk of suicide; the skills learned can be put to use to save lives.

For the full dates of future training please refer to the booking form. Please visit www.siaradwnni.org.uk for further information on ASIST and other free services and training.
