In May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) will apply in the UK. This means that the UK Data Protection Act 1998 will be superseded. The new legislation, amongst other things, will require organisations to be transparent and provide accessible information to individuals about how they use their information. In addition, it specifies requirements in relation to:
- the minimum amount of information to be provided to individuals;
- how to seek consent and ensuring that simple language is used when asking for consent to collect personal information;
- giving people more say over what organisations can do with their information;
- the duty on all organisations to report certain types of personal data breaches, and the requirements for notifying breaches.
Who should attend?
This awareness session is jointly supported by Neath Port Talbot CVS and BAVO and is relevant for those working at an operational level in the voluntary and community sector. It will give you an understanding of how GDPR impacts on you and your organisation and what you need to do now to prepare for compliance within the deadlines.
