Siaradwn Ni (Let's Talk)

Siaradwn Ni is a multi agency partnership project, developed as part of the local strategy to reduce suicide and self harm.

Siaradwn Ni (Let's Talk)Siaradwn Ni – Promoting Your Emotional Health and Well Being

The Siaradwn Ni – Let’s Talk project is a five year Big Lottery funded programme which encompasses a range of training, service and support strands. A £1million project funded by the BIG lottery is urging people to look after their own mental well being as we enter 2011.  Many people in the community can feel the back to work blues following the Christmas Break, others maybe starting to prepare for School or University exams.  Whatever the issue, it’s important to remember that you are not alone and that there are organisations out there that can provide you with support.

The Siaradwn Ni Project aims to reduce stigma attached to mental health by promoting a more positive message amongst the community.  By doing this we not only hope to change peoples perception of Mental health (after all nearly 1 in 4 people will suffer some form of mental health condition) but also aims to reduce the barriers to people accessing support in the first place.

Across Bridgend, Neath and Port Talbot the Siaradwn Ni 5 year project through its Partners, are providing free opportunities for people to participate in supportive and positive well being activities.  These include learning opportunities such as Asist Training (applied suicide intervention skills) throughout the year; counselling service to support individuals; bereavement care and support self esteem and peer mentoring OCN training,  as well as a specific confidence building programme for younger people.

A survey regarding attitudes to Mental Health in Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot

As part of on work being undertaken across Bridgend and Neath and Port Talbot, the Siaradwn Ni – Lets Talk are seeking to gain a local baseline assessment of public attitude to Mental Health.  The primary aim of the questionnaire is to monitor people’s attitudes to mental health and to track changes over a period of time.  Through the on going work being undertaken throughout the two Counties the aim is to measure (over time) whether the work being done is having an impact on people’s attitudes and stereotypes of mental health.

The questionnaire includes a number of statements about mental health, opinions, and direct questions of personal or professional experience of mental health and should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
